OUR BELIEFS
As a Church, we believe in the Bible, in God, in the uniqueness of people, in the sufficiency of Jesus, in the importance of the Church, and in Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
IN THE BIBLE
We believe that the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, are God’s Word to us. We believe that the Bible is complete, accurate and divinely inspired. We believe that the Bible is relevant to the World today and shows us who God is and His great love for us. We believe that the Bible is the best way to know who God is and what He has planned for you and your life. We believe that the Bible gives each of us meaning and purpose.
IN GOD
We believe that there is only one, true and living God and that He is one in three – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We believe that He is a personal God, meaning that He can and wants to be known personally by each of us. We believe God has always existed and is the same now as He ever has been or ever will be.
IN THE UNIQUENESS OF PEOPLE
We believe that men and women are a special creation of God, made in His image, and dearly loved by God. We believe that man, by his own free choice, sinned (rebelled) against God causing the entire human race to be under sin’s curse. We believe that sin is when man does something he knows is wrong or chooses his own way over God’s way.
IN THE SUFFICIENCY OF JESUS
We believe that because of God’s love for people and His desire to reconcile with us, He offered His only Son as a free gift. We believe that all who accept the gift Jesus Christ gave to us when He died in our place will receive eternal life with God and will receive the Holy Spirit as a comfort and a guide. We believe that there is nothing any of us could ever do to justify ourselves before God other than believing in, and accepting the gift of, His Son Jesus. We believe that the good we do is to show our appreciation to God for this gift, but not as a means of justifying ourselves or our lives.
IN THE IMPORTANCE OF THE CHURCH
We believe that a church should be an autonomous local community of believers who are bound together by the Holy Spirit in faith, caring, and friendship. We believe that the members of a Church should not only look after each others needs but also the needs of those around us and throughout the World. We also believe that, while an individual’s relationship with God is personal, that it is the role of the Church to help individuals grow, develop, and nurture that relationship and equip each person with the ability to share God’s light and love with others.
IN BAPTISM AND THE LORD’S SUPPER
We believe that New Testament Churches should observe and teach two ordinances instituted by Jesus while He was on the Earth – Baptism by immersion, as a symbolic act of obedience, and the Lord’s Supper, in which we remember the sacrifice of Christ and His promised return through the taking of bread and the fruit of the vine as symbols of His sacrifice for us.
